Tiba Vieira has trained in capoeira
for over twelve years, beginning with Mestre Jelon and Grupo
Capoeira Brasil in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. In 1997,
Mr. Vieira moved to the USA, where he trained with Contra-Mestre
Caxias and Contra-Mestre Jo, under the supervision of Mestre
Jelon. He has taught children's and adults' classes
at various schools and universities including the Training
Academy in Brooklyn, Saint Anthony's School, Educational
Alliance, the Alvin Ailey School in New York City, Bard College
in Annadale-on-Hudson, New York, Dance Connecticut in Hartford,
Connecticut, the Cleo Parker Robinson Summer Festival in
Denver, Colorado, and Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. In
addition to his teaching, Mr. Vieira has appeared in the
TNT's "Martial Artists of the 20 th Century," the
New York Film Academy's "Fascinado Pela Capoeira," the
PBS series "Egg: The Arts Show," GQ Magazine, and
a Subway restaurants commercial. He is currently pursuing
a degree in Graphic Design. Tiberio serves as a Director
on the Board and Chairperson of the Capoeira Center of New
York, Inc. and works an average of ten-fifteen hours per
week for the Company. His duties include fundraising,
daily operations, and goal setting.
