Lainie Munro is a New York-based
director, choreographer, and performer. Her directing/choreography credits include and episode of "Hope & Faith" starring Kelly Ripa, Oklahoma! starring Rue McClanahan for the Broadway Series of Charlotte NC, "Das Barbecu" in Denver, "Crazy for You" for FSU's Mainstage, and regional productions of " Seven Brides...", "Barnum", "Grand Hotel", "My Fair Lady", and "Joseph...Dreamcoat". Her directing credits included "Great Day" for the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., "Cabaret" for
Weathervane Rep, "That's Entertainment" and "Swing Time", two new revues she created for Cunard's Queen Elizabeth 2, a staged reading of "Rainbow" at CAMI Music Hall in New York, Regionally she has performed as Velma in "Chicago", Diana in "Of Thee I Sing", Kristine in "A Chorus Line", and Phyllis on the european tour of "42nd Street"
She also co-starred
with Brian Welch on an episode of "The Movie Break" for TBS and was featured in Invitation
to the Dance: A Gala Celebration
with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall,
In addition to her work as a director, choreographer, and performer,
Lainie also has an extensive teaching career and is a frequent guest
artist for master classes in Musical Theatre on both the East and West
coasts. She taught Broadway Theatre Dance for the Musical Theatre Intensive
Program at NYU's C.A.P. 21 Conservatory. Currently she is on the Theatre
Dance and Tap faculty at the Broadway Dance Center in New York, where
she is also the Artistic Director of "The Broadway Big Brother/Big
Sister Program," a program she created in 2001 that pairs Broadway
dancers with aspiring young performers, giving them an opportunity to
work together through rehearsals and performances. Lainie was selected
as a finalist for the 2003 Woman's Day Magazine Awards, "Women That
Inspire Us," for her work with The Broadway Big Brother/Big Sister
Program. Munro also holds a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre from Florida State University.
Class Description
Beg THEATRE: Learn classic Broadway Theatre Dance movement and styles: ranging form Robbins to Bennett to Fosse: in a fun, supportive, and encouraging environment. Perfect for the singer/actor who wants to improve their technique by learning style, acting, and performance skills, or for anyone who just loves musical theatre. Lanie is known for her positive energy and for her ability to teach anyone how to dance, and how to enjoy their dancing. Class focuses on a different musical every week, and it covers technique, vocabulary, style, and performance.
As a pre-requisite to this class, basic/beg jazz or ballet is recommended.
Adv Beg THEATRE: This class
is the same format as Beg Theatre but accelerated to the advanced beginner level. Increased emphasis on technique, style, performance, and musicality.
As a pre-requisite to this class, Beg theatre or jazz is recommended.
