Lauren Guthrie
is a professional student of movement and
musicality. She first began her ballet training at the
age of two under the tutelage of Marjorie Tallchief and
Homer Bryant at the Chicago City Ballet School. After
her family later relocated to East Lansing, Michigan she
trained and performed with Lansing Chamber Dance and Children’s
Ballet Theatre, enjoying summer jaunts with the Interlochen
Arts Academy and American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive
programs. While pursuing a BA in history at Columbia University
in New York and nursing a ballet injury, Lauren discovered
the International Latin-American dance style, and quickly
fell in love with its structure, history, and passionate
_expression. She has since trained privately with renowned
Latin coaches and champions such as Victor Kanevsky, Vibeke
Toft, Jose Decamps and Maria Torres, and has competed,
performed and presented her works across the globe.
Lauren believes that an intellectual understanding of dance
history is an essential component of every dancer’s toolbox.
Consequently, her class situates ballet and jazz technique
in the context of authentic Latin dance traditions. Her ultimate
goal is to encourage versatility and individuality in her students,
in a fun and supportive environment. |
