Evans
Nadira Evans was born and raised in Brooklyn, New
York and began dancing at the age of ten years old. She was enrolled
in a community based dance school called Melissa Vaughn’s School
of the Professional Arts, where she received instruction in modern, jazz,
ballet, and African dance. After two years of intense training she was
selected for the school’s
company. Through the company she was able to perform in annual fundraisers
and showcases. At fourteen years old Nadira was accepted into LaGuardia
High School for the Performing Arts, where she learned performance planning,
basics in choreography, good health, and human anatomy. The skills she
acquired at LaGuardia enabled her to audition and receive full scholarship
to the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, where she learned different
styles of dance including flamenco, and the Horton and Dunham techniques.
At Alvin Ailey, Nadira studied with outstanding faculty such as Judith
Jamison Masazumi Chaya. After three years of study at the Ailey School
Nadira went on to become a dance major at SUNY Purchase College. With
her extreme love of dance and extensive training it was only natural
that her next step was to begin teaching. Returning to the very establishment
in which she started, Nadira began teaching ballet to toddlers.
Since
then she has taught classes in modern, jazz, hip hop, African, and
aerobics in places such as The Training Academy and Bally Total Fitness.
Currently, Nadira dances with Eclectic Dance Company and in independent
projects. She is extremely passionate about all things related to dance
and aspires to dance, teach, and choreograph nationally. |
