World-renowned Kirov trained teacher Madame
Gabriela Darvash was Artistic Director and resident choreographer
for the State Opera Ballet in Cluj, Roumania for 14 years. Since 1972
she has resided in New York, running her own school from 1976 to 1988.
Writing in the New York Times Anna Kisselgoff and Jennifer Dunning have
praised her ability to create beautiful, strong, artistically expressive
dancers.
Mikhail Baryshnikov has also been quoted in The New York Times calling
Mme Darvash "one of the distinguished and fine ballet pedagogues
in America." One of her students, a principal dancer with New York
City Ballet has written "her method of teaching has changed my life......her
devotion to this method and the care she takes with each of her students
reminds me very much of the way Mr. Balanchine used to teach his classes."

Class Description
ALL LEVELS: Ideal for students who wish
to concentrate on technique and yearn for musicality. For students who
fall out of pirouettes or are unable to maintain balance securely, Madame's
unique method, based on deep knowledge of anatomy and mechanics, is
a revelation. At once simple and profound, her teaching, for those who
wish to apply her methods, absolutely will enable each student to reach
the maximum his/her individual capacity will allow.
Adv Beg BALLET: Excercises at the barre
and in the center, while using the basic elements of ballet movement,
are musically interesting and teach the fundamentals necessary for mastering
more complex elements.
Int BALLET: Longer and more complex petite
battements, adagio, petite allegro and greater attention to style and
port de bras continues to build the student's technical and artistic abilities.
Adv BALLET: Complex patterns and utilization
of the complete vocabulary of ballet movements to maintain, strengthen
and refine the professional dancer's mastery of his/her art.
